All inspection requests received before 3:30 p.m. will be scheduled for the next business day. Requests received after 3:30 p.m. will be scheduled for the day after the next business day.
Note: Although inspections are scheduled as described above, they are subject to workload. Inspectors prioritize re-inspections when arriving in an area that has re-inspections and first time inspections.
The Building Safety Department strives to issue Fast-Track Residential Building Permits for new construction in 4 to 7 business days after a permit application is submitted with the required prior approvals. With support from the Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association (WCFHBA) and from the County Manager, the department implemented the Fast-Track program on April 3, 2017, to help new construction residential building customers, and to expedite the new construction residential permit process for the customers who first obtain the required approvals from the review agencies specified by the county. This means that the permit application will be submitted after the approvals have been granted by those review agencies.
To be eligible for the Fast-Track Program, an application for a Fast-Track Residential Building Permit for new construction must include the following:
All additional required documents must be attached to a completed Fast-Track Residential Building Permit Application. Applications that do not include prior approvals from CFPUA, the City of Wilmington Zoning, NHC Environmental Health, and additional applicable documentation must be submitted using the normal Residential Building Application.
Completed Fast-Track Residential Building Permit applications and the additional required documentation may be submitted:
Applications received after 4:30 p.m.,either in person or via email, will be logged to begin reviews starting on the next business day.

By completing and submitting the Residential Building Application Packet (NON-Fast Track Building Application Packet) this acknowledges appropriate approvals have not been obtained thus resulting in New Hanover County not guaranteeing permit issuance within 4 to 7 working days.
*Disclaimer – The Fast Track Residential Building Application Packet and all the required forms and documents must be completed, and all drawings must comply with all applicable codes, in order to guarantee a 4 (four) to 7 (seven) working day turnaround time for permit issuance. Failure to complete the Residential Permit Application Form and its “Statement of Understanding Form”; or failure to comply with all codes and ordinances will cause delays in the permit issuance turnaround time, and then the County cannot guarantee that the residential building permit will be issued within 4 (four) to 7 (seven) working days.
